WOMEN in ART
Part of the Marilyn Monroe 100 project is the parallel exhibition cycle Women in Art in the Gothic Hall of the Czech Gallery of Modern Art. This unique accompanying project will present eight contemporary female artists throughout the exhibition, who will gradually present solo exhibitions at two-week intervals.
MARILYN MONROE 100
An engaging story of Marilyn Monroe awaits you, presenting her not only as an actress and cultural phenomenon, but also as a woman full of fragility and inner strength. The exhibition includes more than 270 photographs by 31 renowned authors, among them Sam Shaw, André de Dienes, Bert Stern, Eve Arnold, Richard Avedon, George Barris, Philippe Halsman, Tom Kelley, Bruno Bernard, and Milton H. Greene.
JOSEF JÍRA & JAROSLAV FIAN Bohumil Hrabal's Pábitelé
The exhibition "Bohumil Hrabal's Pábitelé" at the Czech Gallery of Modern Art presents a dialogue between two distinctive, yet fundamentally different painting personalities—Josef Jíra and Jaroslav Fian. The unifying motif of their meeting across artistic worlds is the personality of writer Bohumil Hrabal, whose thinking, language, and way of perceiving reality are reflected in their works in various, often surprising ways.
ANTONIO LIGABUE
Italian painter Antonio Ligabue (1899 –1965), born Antonio Laccabue, was one of the most important naive artists of the 20th century. In 1942, the painter changed his original surname to Ligabue, probably due to hatred for his father, whom he blamed for his mother's murder. He grew up with foster parents, occasionally worked as a farmhand, and lived a nomadic life. Later, he lived off support from the municipal hospice for beggars.
JAROSLAV VALEČKA | DARK LYRICISM
The exhibition "Dark Lyrics" presents Jaroslav Valečka as a painter who can connect the traditional medium of painting with current existential questions, regional memory, and narratives rooted in folk culture.
ZDENĚK BURIAN — 120 YEARS HIS OWN WAY
The Czech Gallery of Modern Art commemorates the 120th anniversary of Zdeněk Burian's birth, reminding the public of this exceptional figure who indelibly influenced 20th-century book illustration and whose reconstructions of prehistoric nature laid the foundations of "European paleoart."
EX LIBRIS AND SMALL PRINTS EXHIBITION
The exhibition presents a selection of works by leading graphic artists of today, including names such as Jiří Anderle, Oldřich Kulhánek, Vladimír Suchánek, Veronika Jelenová, Oldřich Jelen, Marina Richter, Jiří Slíva, and many other Czech and international artists.
GRAPHIC OF THE YEAR and the 30th VLADIMÍR BOUDNÍK AWARD
This is an exhibition project with a long tradition, and in the Czech Republic, it is a completely unique event focused on presenting and mediating contemporary graphic work by a wide range of Czech graphic artists.

OTA JIRÁK
As part of the exhibition František Ringo Čech – Ringo ever Rembrandt never, our Gallery also exhibits works by actor, comedian and voice actor Ota Jirák, a long-time friend of František Ringo Čech. Ota Jirák (April 12, 1949) graduated from the Faculty of Puppetry at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He gradually developed into a prominent figure in Czech theatre and film, working in particular at the Semafor Theatre and the Provisional Theatre of FR Čech.
FRANTIŠEK RINGO ČECH | RINGO EVER, REMBRANDT NEVER
Welcome to the exhibition entitled František Ringo Čech – Ringo ever Rembrandt never, which presents a core part of the artist's work. The paintings, created in a naïve style, are full of colors, simple lines and stories that force viewers to reflect on everyday life.
FERNANDO BOTERO
Fernando Botero (1932–2023) was a Colombian figurative artist and sculptor. His distinctive style, also known as "Boterismo", depicting people and figures in large, even exaggerated, volumes, is often interpreted as sharp social or political criticism.
VLADIMIR SUCHÁNEK | PRINCE OF CZECH LITHOGRAPHY
The Czech Gallery of Modern Art would like to invite you to the exhibition Vladimír Suchánek | Prince of Czech Lithography. Vladimír Suchánek (February 12, 1933 – January 25, 2021) was one of the most important Czech artists of the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries. His color lithographs achieved recognition all over the world.

Welcome to the exhibition of contemporary American artist and composer Mark Kostabi (1960). We have selected for you very affordable graphic sheets of this artist, whose work is recognizable at first glance thanks to faceless figures inhabiting surreal landscapes, depicted in a gaudy colorful graphic style.

The Latin word ex libris means from books, and is translated into Czech as a book mark. It originated in medieval Europe as a way of marking the then valuable book property of individuals, noble families or church institutions.

The exhibition, Hidden in a Woman, presents a cross-section of the broad-ranging work of artist Alena Kupčíková. The author finds inspiration in the everyday world and also in herself, in her feminine nature, experience, and motherhood.
ANNA JOŽOVÁ | ELEMENT
We cordially invite you to the exhibition called "Elemento", which is named after the Latin word for elements. This exhibition presents a unique combination of artistic processing of elements into the shapes of vases and objects. You will find works here that smoothly graduate into the author's new interest, arising not only from the landscape, but above all from the fascinating world of the animal kingdom.
KLARA SEDLO | VOYNICH'S PLANTS
The inspiration for the paintings of the strange flowers comes directly from the Voynich Manuscript, a still-undeciphered manuscript by an unknown author from the early fifteenth century. It is probably a herbarium or medical-astrological book that has long fascinated the painter.
BLANKA ADENSAM
Blanka Adensamová (* November 24, 1949, Turnov) is a painter, glass artist, designer and sculptor. She studied in the glass studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Prof. Stanislav Libenský. Her glass sculptures are represented in prestigious collections around the world. Since 1994, she has had a permanent exhibition of her sculptures in Japan.
TOMÁŠ HŘIVNÁČ | LOOKING FOR A WOMAN
Tomáš Hřivnáč is dedicated to free graphics, painting, drawing, music, but also archery. He is rightly perceived as a Renaissance personality. His strongest means of expression is free graphic creation. In particular, the drypoint gravure graphic technique, which the author masters masterfully, is the most frequent domain of this artist's graphic sheets.
OLDŘICH KULHÁNEK | COURAGE and IMAGINATION
The exhibition will be officially opened on December 12, 2023 at the Czech Gallery of Modern Art, Betlémské náměstí 8, Prague 1, where the launch of this author's monograph will take place at the same time and a previously unknown work by the author will also be presented for the first time - a lithograph that Oldřich Kulhánek created on a lithographic stone during his lifetime, but which has never been published.
MIROSLAV PÁRAL | UNFINISHED EXHIBITION
I only got to know Miroslav Páral in the last decade of his life as a hardworking, straightforward man, and also "unadaptable" to today's demanding times. He felt guilty for his opinions, but he still stood firmly behind them and expressed them in his works.

Graphics of the Year 2022 represents a selection of the best contemporary graphic work from a wide range of artists and graphic design students. Graphics of the Year has become a platform for establishing intergenerational artistic relationships, offering a comprehensive view and the opportunity to evaluate shifts and trends in free graphic design.
