ANNA JOŽOVÁ | ELEMENT | 5. 4. — 19. 5. 24

We cordially invite you to the exhibition called "Elemento", which is named after the Latin word for elements. This exhibition presents a unique combination of artistic processing of elements into the shapes of vases and objects. You will find works here that smoothly graduate into the author's new interest, arising not only from the landscape, but above all from the fascinating world of the animal kingdom.

Anna Jožová (*1996) is a Czech artist and designer who works with glass on the border between free art and design. In 2023, she completed her master's degree in the Glass Studio under the guidance of Professor Rony Plesl at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Between 2016 and 2017, she studied in the Ceramics Design Studio under the guidance of Antonín Tomášek at the Faculty of Art and Design at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. Anna already studied ceramics and porcelain while studying at the Václav Hollar Secondary School of Art.

Since 2018, she has presented her work in many collective exhibitions, fairs and art projects, e.g. at London Design Week, Venice Design Biennial, Czech Grand Design, Glassfest Karlovy Vary, etc., but also at a solo show in the Kvalitář gallery in Prague. In addition to her own original work, she also collaborates with designer Vlastimil Šenkýř, with whom she works in an artistic duo called Kombo. She is systematically dedicated to original glassmaking and design, creating new unique objects by combining various, at first glance, disparate materials and classic glassmaking techniques.

To understand Anna Jožová's work, it is essential that she does not work only formally and is not focused only on the visual effect of the work. On the contrary, she always carefully considers and chooses the form based on a given concept arising from her natural interest in the world around her. This is also linked to the desire to explore and explore the boundaries of glass as a creative material and to push its technical possibilities. Experimentation is therefore one of the most important approaches in Anna Jožová's work, thanks to which she finds new ways to work with glass. In combination with the conceptual background of most projects, works are created that are design objects, but the way in which the artist creates and thinks about them moves them into the field of free art.

Since 2018, Anna Jožová has been creating a series of original vases, with which she always responds to a currently researched topic. Some of these series are therefore partly related to each other and thus push the artistic and technological approach to new positions. Her most fundamental creative theme to date is the reflection of the impacts of human interventions on the environment, which she addresses, for example, in the Gaia, Keto, Nava series. At the same time, Anna Jožová is able to look back with a considerable dose of humor at some moments of our everyday life in her work, and in some cases her work is even a philosophical meditation on the existence of man and his connection to a certain time and place.
