WOMEN in ART

The Marilyn Monroe 100 project includes a parallel exhibition series titled Women in Art at the Gothic Hall of the Czech Gallery of Modern Art. This unique accompanying project will feature eight contemporary female artists over the course of the entire exhibition, presenting their independent exhibitions at two-week intervals.

As part of the project, we will offer diverse perspectives on female identity, strength, sensitivity, inner world, and the changing position of women in contemporary art and society. Each artist will bring a unique artistic language and individual interpretation of themes associated with femininity, emotions, freedom, beauty, and fragility. The project thus creates a space for dialogue between different generations, approaches, and artistic media.

The exhibition symbolically builds on the legacy of Marilyn Monroe as one of the most prominent female icons of the 20th century. Marilyn Monroe is seen here not only as a Hollywood legend but also as a woman who became a symbol of strength, vulnerability, individuality, and the desire for personal freedom. These themes connect the main exhibition with the work of contemporary artists and open up a current perspective on the position of women in art and society.

The Women in Art series simultaneously expands the main project with a contemporary artistic perspective and creates a vibrant platform for the presentation of significant female figures in the Czech art scene. In the historical space from the 14th century, a meeting place for contemporary art, female creativity, and inspiring stories is thus created.
