EXHIBITION OPENING OF JOSEF JÍRA AND JAROSLAV FIAN | March 18, 2026
In the evening of March 18, 2026, we solemnly opened the exhibition of Josef Jíra and Jaroslav Fian subtitled Bohumil Hrabal's Pards. The exhibition, until June 7, 2026, will present a dialogue between two distinctive, yet fundamentally different painting personalities - the Czech painter, graphic artist, and illustrator Josef Jíra and the painter Jaroslav Fian. The unifying motif of their encounter across artistic worlds is the personality of the writer Bohumil Hrabal, whose thinking, language, and way of perceiving reality are reflected in their works in various, often surprising ways.
During the vernissage, we also christened the book Jaroslav Fian – Forgotten Painter and His Fantastic World. This book originated from interviews conducted with the author by Kateřina Malíková and Václav Kopecký in 2021 and 2022 during repeated visits to his apartment in Olomouc. It expresses a tribute to a small great man who lived quietly and humbly enclosed among paintings and books in his dream fantastic world, into which he allows us to glimpse through his brush and palette.
Thank you all for the wonderful atmosphere, which was enhanced by the musical performance of saxophonist Jan.
