Jaroslav Valečka's paintings are often inspired by various stories related to the landscape of the painter's childhood spent in the Czech borderlands, severely affected by the post-war expulsion of Germans and the Soviet occupation. Most paintings are based on a specific story, which is then artistically processed. Some stories are spooky, like when as boys they searched in vain for gold teeth in the local, completely devastated German cemetery, yearning to get rich brutally. Others are poetic, such as when a very strong aurora borealis unexpectedly appeared over Mácha's Lake, which was not a natural phenomenon, however, but burning fuel released from a seriously damaged Soviet fighter jet landing at a nearby airport.
