About the author:
Martin Manojlín (1972) graduated in 1995 from the Faculty of Education at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, where he studied Czech language and art education. It was here that he began to discover his interest in printmaking, especially relief printing techniques.
He honed his artistic talent under the guidance of outstanding printmakers such as Prof. Miloš Michálek and Alois Kračmar. Since 2015, he has been a member of SČUG Hollar.
In his printmaking, Martin Manojlín focuses on relief printing techniques – primarily linocut in combination with woodcut and printing from various structural materials. These are mostly multi-color overprints from several matrices, and the printing process is quite complicated, so the artist prints all sheets exclusively himself. Before printing the next color, he often uncovers the matrices and uses the structures of various materials in the print, or prints on colored papers to enhance the work's effect.
Martin Manojlín works with both loose graphic sheets and exlibris. Since 2011, he has almost exclusively printed exlibris on A4 paper. His art is dominated by natural motifs, which he translates into both concrete depictions and abstract forms. His work has been awarded multiple times in various competitions, triennials, and biennials in the Czech Republic and abroad.
