On the occasion of the Marilyn Monroe 100 exhibition, organized by the Czech Gallery of Modern Art, the eponymous publication is released
The publication includes more than 270 photographs by 31 renowned authors who fundamentally shaped the image of Marilyn Monroe throughout her entire career – from intimate and candid shots by Sam Shaw and André de Dienes to the famous images by Bert Stern, Eve Arnold, Richard Avedon, George Barris, Philippe Halsman, Tom Kelley, Bruno Bernard, or Milton H. Green. The photographs reveal not only the transformations of her public image but also the fragility, naturalness, and inner tension hidden behind the facade of a Hollywood star.
An integral part of the publication are excerpts from the works of prominent American and Czech artists Andy Warhol, Romero Britto, Mr. Brainwash, Charles Fazzino, Michael Godard, Pasta Oner, and Štěpán Mareš, who interpret the phenomenon of Marilyn Monroe in the context of contemporary art and pop culture. The publication is complemented by texts and archival materials that shed light on the private world of a woman who became a timeless symbol of femininity, fame, and vulnerability.
