About the author:
Ota Jirák (12 April 1949) studied puppetry at DAMU. He gradually rose to prominence as a significant figure in Czech theatre and film, working primarily at the Semafor Theatre and F. R. Čech's Prozatímní Divadlo. He lent his voice to, for example, the plush character Hele (he and Jiří Lábus have been voicing Jů and Hele for over 40 years), Rubeus Hagrid from the Harry Potter saga, and the alien Alf. As for his artistic work, Ota Jirák has a fondness for caricatures and paintings that capture exaggerated, even grotesque features of people or animals. This work is directly inspired by his sense of humour and dramatic expression, which allows him to enrich his artistic work with absurdities and unique comedic elements. He has created a number of enamels, drawings, and illustrations that have a strong expressive style and a simplified yet apt form.
