About the artist:

Zoltán Vén (*1941) is a graphic artist born in the Hungarian city of Pesterzsébet, a suburb of Budapest. After finishing school, he worked at the Ministry of Finance as a designer. He then managed the workshops of the State Puppet Theatre for five years, after which he dedicated himself exclusively to graphic art. He is known as an ex libris artist throughout Europe.

In 1976, he created his first intaglio print for the public, and in the same year, he received his first award for small graphic art. Since then, he has won 18 different awards in competitions not only in Europe but also worldwide. His name is listed in the fifth volume of "The Ex Libris Artists" published by the International Federation of Ex Libris Societies, which contains 6 original engravings by Zoltán Vén.

Zoltán Vén has created approximately 300 small graphic works, the vast majority of which are copperplate engravings, followed by etchings, aquatints, soft-ground etchings, and linocuts. He works on commission for famous collectors from almost all European countries and can be called the most successful ambassador of Hungarian ex libris art.

His works represent all aspects of European culture, Hungarian history, mythology, and folklore, as well as good and bad human qualities, sometimes in a satirical spirit. He also illustrates significant events of our time in his individual way.

The works of Zoltán Vén exhibit a completely individualistic style in the field of small graphic art and are highly valued by collectors.
