About the artist:
Man Ray (1890-1976) was an American painter, photographer, creator of collages and constructed objects, sculptor, and filmmaker. He is one of the prominent representatives of the 20th-century artistic avant-garde. Born in America, he spent most of his creative career in France.
Man Ray moved through various art worlds, experimenting with different genres and techniques. From Cubism, he shifted to Dadaism and Surrealism, where he focused on discovering "higher reality" and materializing the "inner model." He was primarily known for his "photographs without a camera" (rayographs or photograms), a technique in which light-sensitive material was exposed to light without the use of a camera.
After moving to Paris in 1921, Man Ray became a renowned photographer, whose portraits and fashion shots appeared in prestigious magazines. In addition, he devoted himself to film and created several avant-garde short films.
During World War II, he lived in Hollywood, but after the war, he returned to Paris, where he remained until his death. His later works included painting, photography, and assemblages.
Man Ray's art was long undervalued, but over time it became increasingly appreciated, and retrospective exhibitions of his works were held around the world. After his death, the Man Ray Trust was established, which owns a collection of his works and the artist's copyrights.
