Alfons Mucha (1860–1939) was a prominent Czech painter, graphic artist, and designer of the Art Nouveau period. Between 1894 and 1895, he created a poster for the play Gismonda, which brought him worldwide fame almost overnight and propelled his name to the forefront of French society.
