An adventure story you can't put down
In his extensive work, Jules Verne described a journey around the world in several novels. However, in none of them did his imagination place as many terrifying obstacles in the main characters' path as here. The desire to help Captain Grant drew the novel's hero, Lord Glenarvan, and his loved ones into a deadly adventure. Grant was shipwrecked somewhere in the world, and a message found in a shark's belly provided only one clue: the location was somewhere on the thirty-seventh parallel south latitude. Thus, there was nothing left but to journey through the wildernesses of South America and then Australia and New Zealand. The obstacles are created by untamed nature, whether earthquakes or windstorms, but also by people, cannibals, escaped convicts, and, above all, the epitome of all evil, a cold-blooded traitor. The reader receives this story again in a re-told version, emphasizing the plot's suspense and adorned with magnificent illustrations by Zdeněk Burian. The story will unfold before the reader's eyes like an adventure film that is hard to tear oneself away from.
