Henri-Émile-Benoît Matisse (1869 – 1954) was a French graphic artist, sculptor, stage designer, and architect. However, he is best known for his painting – he gained renown for his work with color and his brilliant drawing skills. He was the leading figure of the art movement known as Fauvism. Along with Pablo Picasso, he is among the artists who most influenced the development of art in the second half of the 20th century.
