About the artist:
František Kupka (1871 – 1957) was a prominent Czech painter, graphic artist, and illustrator, one of the founders of modern abstract painting. František Kupka's abstract work had its own specific development, especially in processing the theme of movement. Until 1930, the basis of his non-figurative paintings was realistic groundwork, but the peak period of Kupka's work represents so-called pure abstraction. Kupka's relationship to music also played an important role, leading to the development of the artistic movement known as Orphism – a movement that brought painting closer to other arts (music, poetry). He spent most of his life in France.
