Claude Oscar Monet (1840-1926) was born in Paris. He was a French Impressionist painter who had a great influence on the development of modern art.
Monet's artistic career began in Le Havre, where he met the painter Eugène Boudin, who encouraged him to paint outdoors and opened the way for his artistic career. Monet attended the painting academy in Paris, where he met other artists such as Camille Pissarro and Auguste Renoir.
Impressionism, a movement that Claude Monet helped found, focused on capturing light and moments in nature. His paintings often depicted motifs such as water, gardens, and everyday scenes of the countryside and city. Monet became famous for his series of paintings in which he captured the same motif under different lighting conditions.
After financial difficulties in the middle of his career, Monet settled in Giverny, where he built his famous water lily garden, which became the inspiration for many of his later paintings. Here he also created a series of paintings of Rouen Cathedral and others.
