Henri-Émile-Benoit Matisse (1869 – 1954) was a French graphic artist, sculptor, stage designer, and architect. However, he is best known for his painting – he gained fame for his use of color and his brilliant drawing skills. He was a central figure in the art movement known as Fauvism. Along with Pablo Picasso, he is among the artists who most influenced the development of art in the second half of the 20th century.
