Iconic one-dollar bills that Andy Warhol signed on the front with a marker and presented as his own works of art. Throughout his artistic career, Warhol dealt with the iconography of money and often used dollar signs, images of currency, and actual dollar bills in his work. By signing a dollar bill, Warhol effectively defaced it, but at the same time increased its value, creating a tension between artistic and commercial value.
In a similar way, Keith Haring also modified banknotes after him (some they signed together), and after them, a number of other artists adopted this practice, creating their works on dollar bills and thereby altering their validity and value.
