About the artist:
František Kupka (1871 – 1957) was a prominent Czech painter, graphic artist, and illustrator, one of the founders of modern abstract painting. František Kupka's abstract work itself had its specific development, particularly in the treatment of the theme of movement. Until 1930, his non-figurative paintings were based on realistic foundations, but the peak period of Kupka's work represents so-called pure abstraction. Kupka's relationship with music also played an important role, leading to the development of the artistic movement known as Orphism – a movement that brought painting closer to other arts (music, poetry). He spent most of his life in France.
