About the author:
Fernando Botero (1932–2023) was a Colombian figurative artist and sculptor. His distinctive style, also known as "Boterism" ("boterismo"), which depicts people and figures with exaggerated, often inflated, volume, is often interpreted as a sharp social or political critique. Botero, who called himself "the most Colombian of Colombian artists," gained national recognition when he won first prize at the Salón de Artistas Colombianos in 1958. After moving to Paris in 1973, he began creating sculptures, and by the 1990s, he achieved international acclaim with exhibitions around the world.
