JEAN SARIANO

Jean Sariano (*1943) was born in Oran, a coastal city in Algeria. There, he attended the Beaux-Arts school and later, after a stopover in Paris, moved to the United States, where he completed his studies in New York. His contemporary works, with their pop art character, are clear and energetic. Many works reflect the artist's exuberant, joyful outlook on life.

Early in his career, Sariano participated in numerous group exhibitions at universities, museums, and galleries in the United States and Europe. The attention he received continues to this day thanks to his unique prints and exceptional gouache paintings. Among his specialties are watercolors and mixtures of various printing processes, such as etching and aquatint.

The motifs in his works feature cartoon characters that he developed himself. Often, these characters combine in bright, saturated colors to create a graphic composition. Flat groups of figures form a pattern and exude an enormous appeal with their contrasting, bright colors. They speak of youthful vitality.
