IVAN KOMAREK

Ivan Komárek (*1956) is a Czech painter and graphic artist. His work also includes object art, ceramic sculpture, illustrations, and architectural realisations, including wall paintings and ceramic tiles. He comes from a diplomat's family and became interested in art during his law studies.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he graduated in painting under Professor Jan Smetana. During his life, Ivan Komárek also engaged in other activities, such as boxing and founding the artist group Boxart. He exhibited both individually and with this group. His work is characterised by strong stylisation and often focuses on the human body, its sensuality and sexuality.

His paintings are characterised by strict compositional order and an expressive style that defies conventions. Ivan Komárek experiments with various materials and techniques, including lithography, serigraphy, collages, sculptures, assemblages, and reliefs. In his works, he often drew inspiration from artistic tradition and included both figurative and abstract elements.

He also uses unconventional materials such as foam polystyrene or industrial materials. He often collaborates with architects on realisations in public spaces. His work is diverse and original, leaving a significant mark on contemporary Czech art.
